I used to take ballet classes in a fire hall in North Hills. I've also been to countless sports banquets held at fire halls. It's truly the epicenter of a yinzerhood. Yinz ought to devote an entire entry to the "cookie table." People outside the Burg have no idea about that.

I remember going to my cousin's wedding in Brentwood when I was about 17, and after many trips to the parking lot of the reception hall ( I think it was an Elks or an Owls) to burn illegal substances, my delinquent cousins and I blocked the cookie table and pigged out selfishly until we got yelled at by our aunt/nun!Who says the 70's weren't fun?

Nothing better that an event at a western pa fire hall or church hall! Any wedding reception worth wasting a Saturday evening must be in a church or fire hall, with plenty of free beer on tap.

In Johnstown, a typical wedding reception starts with a full variety of cookies on the cookie table(s). You better have more than one table because the old ladies have big purses!

Next dinner is served. Pigs (stuffed cabbage) and Rigs (Rigatoni) at its best served with buttered potatoes and green beans and rolls. You will really hit a home run with the crowd if fried chicken is also served.

After dinner the fun begins..... Polka Time! A mixed marriage (Polish and Italian)will have a few Italian dances (Tarantella).

And last but not least..... the Grand Finale... the Bridal Dance Polka!
